Finished object Friday...socks

I finished these a few days ago, though they have been nearly finished for much longer!
They still fit, but not for long.

Can't believe I've never blogged about this before...

...I knitted it at least 5 years ago, before the craze for knitted food, so it seemed even more hilarious than it does today.  It still tickles me though.

Its loosely based on some pattern from an ancient jackie magazine, if you search 'fry up' on ravelry it will appear, although I made up some of it.  And left off the sausage, cos it just looked kind of wrong.

Tuesday...stuff

I finished this version of liesl (which is actually a cardi pattern) the other day, I don't know whether to like it or not.  My first impression is to hate it beacuse it is made from yarn bought for a thing I was planning for someone who will no longer be getting knitted for by me!  So I wanted to get that horrid (cheap) yarn used up, so thought I'd try it out on liesl.  In case I don't like liesl, cos it looks like a slightly jobby pattern.  Not only that, the yarn also ran out, so it has this interesting fade into beige.  At this point I realised it was doomed never to be worn out, so just carried on in stocking stitch.

But you know, its really warm, and really comfy.  And I quite like navy and beige together.  I even wore it out...under a sling, on the school run.  I won't wear it in real public.  But I think I'll knit another , just in stocking stitch next time.

Also, I've been washing that fleece some more

and pondering drop spindles...knitting a thing called a gaiter in the 'one skein wonders' book but that seems a horrid word for a hat/headband thing.  Surely gaiters are things for your legs?  Anyway, it is warm thing, I finished it this evening and its very nice.

Its just a tube of 1x1 but its v cosy.  I also...the shame...finally sewed the ends in these socks...

discovered abi and I love refried beans (much tastier than they look)

started building a wigwam in the garden...

whilst the children lazed around...

received a birthday request...

and had a good giggle when I took a break frmo cooking to check on abi, to be greeted with this sight

that girl knows how to use a blanket or 3.

wednesday...a dress.

Today has been cold, and hard.  But someone was warm

Its sort of blocking itself as it stretches in wear!  Which is lucky because there is no way I could wait to put this on her.  She likes it (she always does though...at the moment...)

Also...I sense a new hobby coming on.  Who knew you could buy madder in whitstable.  Watch this space to see me bugger it up!

Yummy!

Yummy rainbow goodness...I was worried my daughter had got them all dirty whilst 'helping' make these but turns out they were just dark from dampness. Tumble dryer did finish them off nicely.




These have been played with a lot today, but have had to supervise because they are temptingly sweetie-like!

Bought some lovely wool for a friends daughters hat...merino, alpaca and silk mmmmm

A new hat!

Aviatrix, to be precise.




She's a bit poorly today :-(
It's some sort of wool/silk mix. Usually i don't go for the mega smooth yarns...especially when knitting short rows as the wraps show...but I didn't want this to be tickly, I need it to stay on her little head!

Ultimate slippers

I bought dan some amazing wool haflinger slippers recently. I am so jealous, but the adult ones are pretty pricey




So I am making myself some Russian style slippers as inspired by a pattern on the purl bee, cba to find link right now. One is done, and it feels good, so the other one had better hurry up




I'm thinking about buying some sheepskin insoles for them, they seem cheap on eBay. Surely these would then be the ultimate slippers. Made entirely from granny squares, fab. I might make abi a wee pair to match.

Buttons and things

Buttons are finally on the cardi which was finished yonks ago!




They fit nicely into the eyelet pattern so no need to faff about with buttonholes yay!




It is a good cardi for snuggling teddy in.

Today I painted just with abi for the first time. It was wonderful to see how exciting and absorbing she found it




And really took me back to when dan was little too, and at that magical age when every experience is full of wonder








Oh, and the heel of dans Christmas stocking has been turned! I am going to my first ever knitting group tomorrow and hoping to learn how to graft my toe stitches more tidily.

A simple vintage style pyjama case

I have a love hate thing with the sewing machine. It can do magic stuff, but wants you to believe it will be simpler than it ends up being (this is prob just me.)

Anyway I suddenly had the idea for this today and it filled the urge to sew. It is very easy indeed, just straight lines. It took about half an hour of the babys nap, leaving me time to wash up too, oh yay.



Lay out fabric and mark a rectangle with proportions of 3:1. I drew round this book 3 times.

Fold fabric along long edge and cut out, so you now have a rectangle of 3:2. I found the iron at this point!



Rootle through your ribbon tin



Mmmmmmmm

Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, rs together, and pin trimming inside one short edge.



Sew it in, turn at the corner and carry on along about halfway down the long edge.




Now sew up the other end and up the side, leaving a few inches to turn rs out. Press.

Fold the end with trim up a bit. About this much.



Fold the other end down about this much



Sew a seam down either side, turn rs out and you are finished!



You could make it in a more interesting shape. I probably couldn't though!

Another jumper

This one is a little shorter in length so I really hope if lasts all winter. I am pleased with the front opening, I think it's pretty sweet. I have forgotten the name of the wool (but not the price eek!) I love rainbow things!

Well here is some wintry knitting.



I'm still not too sure I should've put pink and orange together...but this cardi seems soooooo warm. And the wool is just gorgeous, it was from nimu (really wish she sold dk regularly, or maybe did custom dying or something!)

And I love this pattern:




Which is really easy but a bit different. Once I started a green cardi for me with this pattern and sadly it looked a lot like cannabis leaves so never got finished!

Might post some more later when I don't have a sweaty, sleepy baby on my lap!
