My bro was in a Samhain re-enactment, Vikings v Saxons and all sorts of bloodcurdling stuff


There was lots if fire involved, too much for dan who enjoyed an unusual piggyback (no abi for a change!)



I got sick of darning my beloved slippers. They're getting patches from an old felted jumper!



I don't really get hallowe'en if I'm honest, it doesn't feel very real to me. But it was fun to dress up and visit nanny (and her cat)

Cake

Here is our Xmas cake!



And here we are in our pinnies baking it!


Today I went to the garage to find my box of Xmas craft stuff. Could I find it? Nope. But I found this huge bit of muslin (original intended purpose long forgotten) and dyed it in some turmeric whilst our stew bubbled away.



The hot tumble dryer turned the vivid yellow a mellow autumnal orange



What a happy accident! It's now draped over the clothes horse play house.
Here is a little mouse I made last night...

Therapy

Oh yesterday was bad. My mum came to visit, first time I've seen her in months. Just as we sit down for a chat, the washing machine starts pissing water everywhere. Being the fool I am, I turned it off and opened the door. Instant flood, half hour mopping up. In my dash I knocked over a tealight I'd just blown out, tipping wax all over 3 hand knitted garments. Amazingly, I didn't cry. (and have now ironed it all out.) I nearly cried when I took abi for her vaccination though. Deciding to vacc was quite big for us.

All that, and aunt flo came to visit too, hurrah!!! So I deserved this, oh yes:



Today I relaxed with dan in front of star wars with my knitting



And dan with his knitting bee



Because watching tv is no excuse to be idle!!
And now I have the scent of Xmas cake fruit soaking in brandy to soothe my shattered nerves...



Mmmmm. Slowly but surely, Xmas is coming!

Knitted and felted bells for your Tree

I'm a bit obsessed with Xmas so made this wee pattern up. Maybe someone else will like it, maybe not, but I'm plonking it here anyway!






Use 100% wool and needles to give fairly loose tension.

Cast on 30, work 2 rs st st.
*k1, k2tog* to end, 20 sts.
Work 13 rows st st.
*k2tog* to end, 10 sts
Purl 1 row
*k2tog* to end, 5 sts. Cut long tail, thread through and pull up 5 loops and sew seam. It won't look amazing.





You could knit it in the round if you enjoy that sort of thing. Now felt it in the washing machine at at least 40 degrees c. Pull into shape esp around base before drying. Add loop and maybe a wee bell.

There you are, bells for your tree.

Christmas stamped wrapping paper

Ok so it's a while til Xmas...but you have to do something during half term! I'm hoping to make all our Xmas paper so we need to build up supplies anyway.




Worried that chopping pots would be a faff but it was fine.




Much daftness and laughing!




Thought we may as well just use our fingers for the last one, dan says it's snow! Luckily I remembered to get a bowl for handwashing ready first!




Sometimes the simple things are the best :-) and the brown paper was recycled so it's satisfying all ways round.
